Lovers of historic architecture will find plenty to enjoy in De Alde Feanen. The area is home to several remarkable churches and national heritage monuments that are well worth visiting. <\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Scattered across the landscape you will find characteristic churches, historic buildings and various national monuments. These buildings tell the story of the communities that have lived and worked here throughout the centuries. During a walk, cycling trip or boat tour through the area, you will regularly pass these historic sites, which add an extra layer of character to the landscape of De Alde Feanen. <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/article><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Churches<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Several historic churches can be found in and around De Alde Feanen. In Wergea stands the Saint Martin\u2019s Church, a remarkable neo-Gothic church built between 1860 and 1862. The church can be visited by appointment. <\/p>

Also located in Wergea is the former Dutch Reformed Church, which was converted into a small theatre in the 1970s and 1980s.<\/p>

In Earnew\u00e2ld you can visit two churches: the Agnes Church from 1794 and the Reformed Church.<\/p>

If you are looking for an even older church, the Saint Peter\u2019s Church in Grou is highly recommended. This church dates back to the 13th century.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

National monuments<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

In Grou, no fewer than 43 buildings are listed as national monuments. Most of these are residential houses or farmhouses, but there are also churches and three historic windmills. The former Town Hall of Idaarderadeel now serves as a museum, where you can see collections of porcelain, gold and silver. <\/p>

In Earnew\u00e2ld, It Kokelh\u00fbs fan Jan en Sjut is registered as a national monument. The former home of Jan and Sjut van den Berg now functions as a museum. The Reformed Church with its tower in Earnew\u00e2ld is also listed as a national monument. <\/p>

In Oudega, you will find another historic church that is listed as a national monument: the Saint Agatha Church, built in the 12th century. The church, its tower and the surrounding cemetery are all part of the monument listing. <\/p>

In Warten, there are five national monuments, including two windmills and a church. The Greidbuorkerij is also a national monument.
